• Acts as a consultant to the ALS Multidisciplinary Care Center
• Evaluates pulmonary function (breathing)
• Treats underlying or superimposed pulmonary diseases
• Discusses the role of noninvasive and invasive permanent ventilatory support in ALS
• Institutes noninvasive positive-pressure ventilation (NIPPV) devices when appropriate
• Institutes permanent ventilatory support when appropriate
