Hiroshi Mitsumoto, MD, has been officially appointed the Wesley J. Howe Professor of Neurology at Columbia University. Named professorships are the University’s way of honoring its most distinguished faculty while also acknowledging the generous individuals who have made the chair possible. Dr. Mitsumoto is one of the few faculty who have been recognized with such an honor.

Serge Przedborski, MD, PhD
, is the 2002 named recipient of the Sheila Essey Award. This award represents the highest recognition for individuals who have contributed significantly in the search for the cause, treatment, prevention, and cure for ALS. A $25,000 cash prize funded by the Essey Family Foundation accompanies the award. The American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and the ALS Association as sponsors will confer the award to Dr. Przedborski at the annual AAN meeting in April, 2002.
