Patient Services

Greetings to all members of the Eleanor and Lou Gehrig MDA/ALS Center family. My name is Leah Bailin and I am the new ALS Health Care Service Coordinator with MDA. I have been with MDA for two months now and in that short amount of time I have had the pleasure of meeting with many of you at clinic, and some of you at Columbia’s MDA/ALS Support Group.

For those whom I have not had the opportunity to meet, allow me to give you a little bit of information about myself. I am a Certified Social Worker and received my Masters in Social Work from Fordham University right here in Manhattan. I have experience working with individuals of all age ranges and my specific area of expertise is in work with families. I hope to utilize these skills to be an effective liaison between those who are affected by ALS. Free transportation is available thru the MDA to and from clinic up to four times a year when no family, public, or other community resource is available.

New from the MDA/ALS Division is a grant supporting individuals who need augmentative communication devices due to speech changes. The MDA will now provide up to $2000 per person towards the purchase of an assistive communication device. For more information about these and other services that MDA provides, access our web site at http://als.mdausa.org.

I am taking on this position with a great deal of excitement and enthusiasm. I am here to help wherever I can. Please do not hesitate to contact me at (212) 689-9040 or newyorkcityservices@mdausa.org.
