The Eleanor and Lou Gehrig MDA/ALS Center began with the generosity of Lou Gehrig’s widow, Eleanor, naming Columbia University as a benefactor to the Gehrig Estate. At the same time, the Muscular Dystrophy Association recognized the substantial contributions of Columbia faculty to ALS research and treatment by designating our Center as one of the MDA’s centers of excellence. Such generosity has continued with contributions from many other friends.

The intertwined goals of helping to serve those living with ALS while working to find a cure provide many opportunities for supporting the ALS Center. Our research program and clinical accomplishments distinguish Columbia’s ALS Center as an international leader in ALS research and patient care. However, much more needs to be accomplished before this terrible disease is controlled and eliminated. If we are to fulfill our mission to find a cure for ALS, we need your help.

We rely upon the generosity of individual donors and, therefore, there are many gift options available for you to help us meet our goal.
