MICHIO HIRANO, MD
Professor of Neurology
Associate Director, Adult Muscular Dystrophy Association Neuromuscular Clinic
Dr. Hirano is a clinical researcher and neurologist with expertise in neuromuscular disorders. He received his B.A. degree from Harvard College and M.D. from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Hirano completed his Neurology Residency and Neuromuscular Research Fellowship at the Neurological Institute of Columbia University.
Dr. Hirano’s special interests are neuromuscular diseases including mitochondrial disorders, muscular dystrophies, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. At Columbia University, he directs a molecular neurogenetics research laboratory in the H. Houston Merritt Clinical Research Center and is the Medical Director of the Laboratory of Molecular Neurogenetics. He is a member of the Muscular Dystrophy Association Medical Advisory Committee.
